SL swim falls in dual meet opener, despite some strong performances

“I am proud on how well they swam against a tough opponent for our first dual meet,” she said. “It’s hard to pick out only a few key swims, when everyone did so well.”

Senior Jaylen Adkins stood out from the crowd with her 27.59 second finish in the 50-yard freestyle, as well as a 59.98 showing in the 100 free.

Audrey Gleason had a strong effort in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:22.41, while the Lakers’ 200 freestyle relay squad posted another strong performance after shining at last weekend’s Ludington Relays. Thursday, the group of Olivia Kuhn, Sophia Kleinheksel, Roxane Strobel and Adkins finished in 1:51.97.

Spring Lake’s divers also had a strong collective effort, as the Lakers placed second, third, and fifth against Byron Center. Makayla Boyink led the way with a personal best score of 172.75. Paige Rubleski totaled a 165.75, and Shelby Munch finished with a 132.95.

Spring Lake competes in its home opener on Tuesday against Holland Christian.
