The Buccaneers carded a 187, coming up just three strokes short of Rockford’s 184 at the Rams’ home North Kent Golf Course.

Hailey Watkins shot a round of 45 for the Bucs, followed by Martha Ramsey with a 47, Megan Hendrickson with a 47, and Kaelie DeVries with a 48. Kira Glass added a 50 for the Bucs.

“I always told the girls, we needed four scores in the 40s, and that’s what we had,” Glass said. “I’m really happy for them. This was a bit unexpected. I was thinking we were going to hover right around 200 all season, but they really made a move. If we’re in the 180s, we can play with anybody in the league.”

Spring Lake overcame a physical Fremont team on Tuesday to remain undefeated in Lakes Eight Conference boys soccer action following the 8-0 final.

The Lakers’ Austin Gabris, Riley Kammeraad and K.J. Sanchez each scored two goals, while Tyler Cole and Kaleb Winter also scored goals for Spring Lake.

Joe Czajka recorded two saves in goal for the Lakers, who are now 4-0 on the season.

Spring Lake plays at Grand Haven on Thursday, with the varsity game beginning at 6:45 p.m.

Junior Varsity: Spring Lake held off Fremont, 2-1. Alec Palmer scored twice for the Lakers.
