Bucs' equestrian team back in the saddle and thriving

The Buccaneers bested the Orioles on Saturday, 147-124, in the opening district competition of the season.

“In the past 30 years of competition, Ludington High School has been undefeated at the district level, until this past Saturday,” said Grand Haven coach JoAnn Kosanic.

Spring Lake finished with 107 points, followed by Oakridge with 74 and Shelby with 46.

The teams went at it again on Sunday, and Ludington started a new winning streak with a narrow 136-126 win over Grand Haven. Spring Lake was a close third with 116 points, followed by Oakridge with 97 and Shelby with 50.

Buccaneers’ senior Kaitlin Brace accumulated 86 points at the event, with four class wins to her credit.

Freshman Olivia Ortiz earned 82 points and six class wins, while senior Stephanie Szymas also accumulated 82 points with three class wins.

Bucs’ sophomore Corrina Frings added 23 points and two class wins to the Bucs’ title.
