Big Break Spring Lake coming to SLCC

The event is a spin-off of the popular Golf Channel television show which pits 24 golfers against each other in various tests of skill.

Cost for each of those 24 golfers — who have already been selected — to participate is $100, and all the proceeds from the event go toward the Spring Lake Junior Golf Association.

"This is kind of a trial run for something even bigger next year," said SLCC general manager Kevin Green. "We hope to make it a more publicized, larger, annual event to help create funds for our junior golf program."

The Spring Lake Junior Golf Association is a program open to members of the community. Because of intense fundraising, the class is available at a minimal cost to participants.

"We essentially formed the Spring Lake Junior Golf association to offer instruction to those in the community who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to do it," Green said. "Fundraising pays for a lot of the overhead — course time, the professional's time, so it's a minimal fee for people who come in out of the community to take these clinics."

The SLJGA also offers a yearly tournament and an advanced clinic. Information on these offerings is available online at http://www.springlakecc.com/.

Green explained that Big Break Spring Lake will feature four different stations. One will feature a wall contestants must hit over and onto the green, while another will feature glass targets that contestants must try to break.

The event, open to the public, begins at 4:30 p.m.

"We'll have multiple elimination rounds, with the finals from 6-6:30," Green said.

Following the golf event, a reception will take place with live music, a live auction, complimentary hors-d'eurves and a cash bar.
