Lakers' tennis goes 2-1 on hectic Saturday

The Lakers opened the day with a 5-3 loss at Holland Christian.

Spring Lake then traveled to Allegan for the Allegan Dual Tournament and lost to Sturgis, 7-1, before defeating Hamilton, 5-3.

Against the Maroons, the Lakers received strong performances from Ryan Fedewa at No. 1 singles and Eric Johnson at No. 3. They both won their matches in straight sets.

At No. 4, Craig Pratt suffered a tough 2-6, 6-1, 10-5 setback.

The lone doubles win for the Lakers came at No. 2, where Brenden Peel and Josh Cole won 4-6, 6-0, 10-8.

Two other doubles flights went to a third set, but Holland Christian won both.

Against Sturgis, the Lakers’ lone win came at No. 1 doubles, where Kasey Panyard and Mitch Davis pulled out a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Spring Lake finally got a victory under its belt against Hamilton, with Frdewa and Stuart Velarde winning singles matches. Velarde needed three sets to win at No. 2, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5.

In doubles play, Panyard and Davis won at No. 1 in straight sets. 

The Lakers’ No. 2 doubles group of Cole and Peel needed three sets to pull out a win, as did Patrick Wang and Tyler Strandberg at No. 3 doubles.

The Lakers are now 6-5 in dual matches heading into today’s home match against Grant. They'll head to Ludington on Saturday to compete in the conference tournament.
