Volleyball roundup: Fruitport finishes unbeaten in Lakes Eight

The Trojans’ record now stands at 21-22 overall and 6-0 in the Lakes Eight.

Setter Breanne Bo had a nice evening for the Trojans, as she totaled 14 assists, as well as two aces and 13 digs.

Brandie Jones led in kills with nine and also added two blocks. Jessica Meloche tallied a team-high 17 digs, while Claire McWilliams had three blocks and three kills.

SL SHINES ON PARENT, SENIOR NIGHT

Spring Lake honored its players’ parents and the Lakers’ seniors, and then took care of visiting Tri-County in a three-game sweep.

The Lakers improve to 14-15 overall and 3-3 in the Lakes Eight Conference.

“We really played consistently offensively and defensively,” said Spring Lake coach Sarah Bulthuis. “This was one of our better blocking matches, which forced Tri-County to tip or free ball it over to us.”

Junior Courtney Kyser and sophomore Kelsee Zuidema led the blocking, as Kyser had 4 ½ and Zuidema totaled three. Zuidema also added team highs in aces with four and kills with 13. Emily Blahnik had 24 assists and six digs, while Brooke TenBrink led with 13 digs.

Junior Varsity: Spring Lake got back to .500 in league matches at 3-3 overall following its 25-18, 25-21 win against Tri-County on Tuesday. Olivia Dykstra served tough with five aces for the Lakers. Katie Hettenbach led with five assists, Randi Rice had three kills, Emma Suchecki dug up 10 balls, and Amber Taylor had three blocks.

Freshmen: Spring Lake completed a perfect record in league matches following its victory over Tri-County on Tuesday. The Lakers defeated the Vikings, 25-12, 25-19, thaks to three digs, three aces and six assists by Abby Moe. Katie Mumby added three kills, two blocks and two aces, and Ellen Lauinger had two digs, an ace and a kill.
