Spring Lake coach Rich Hyde told his varsity girls basketball team before Friday’s contest at Fremont that the team that won the rebounding and turnover battles would win the game.
Well, the Lakers took care of business in both of those statistical categories, but fell short in another.
Spring Lake made just 5-of-16 free throws and shot just 13-of-45 from the floor in a 38-37 loss at Fremont.
“We came up just a little short, and it came down to shooting,” said Hyde, whose team falls to 0-1 on the year. “We had opportunities to put the ball in the hole. We’ve got some work to do there.”
Sophomore Kelsee Zuidema led the Lakers with seven points and eight rebounds, including seven offensive boards. Molly Miedema and Brittany Beeler also scored seven points, while Miedema and Tori Tober were outstanding defensively.
