Grand Haven’s varsity wrestling team went 2-2 at Saturday’s Lowell Duals.

The Buccaneers suffered losses to state powerhouse Lowell (45-25) and New Lothrup (39-30) before edging Howell (38-37) and overpowering Fruitport (74-9).

Camden Bertucci, Dakota Juarez, Connor Moynihan and Chase VanHoef each went unbeaten on the day for the Bucs, while Matt Mulcahy had just one loss.

Fruitport finished 0-4 on the day, falling to Howell (57-17), Lowell (65-14) and New Lothrop (61-10).

Collin Butler, Alexander Foster and Jack Beeman each went 3-1 on the day for Fruitport.

Host Jenison ruled the pool at the 37th annual Wildcat Swim Invitational on Saturday, with the ‘Cats taking first place with 491 points.

Spring Lake was last in the five-team field with 86 points, although head coach Jason Lintjer was pleased with several of his underclassmen’s performances, namely junior Alex Kuhn.

Kuhn had a strong seventh-place showing in the 100-yard butterfly, as he touched the wall in 1 minute, 7.26 seconds. He also swam a leg on the Lakers’ 200 medley relay that took seventh and also featured Marshall Bailey, Chris Hintz, and Davis Allison.

It was a coming out party of sorts for Bailey, a freshman. He turned in an eighth-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:07.67), and helped lead the 400 freestyle relay to a sixth place finish. The relay also included Hintz, Will Parker and Mason Grogan.

Hintz swam to a seventh-place showing in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.78), while Parker placed ninth in the 200 freestyle (2:10.24).

Spring Lake is off until Jan. 8, when it hosts Holland Christian at the Spring Lake Aquatic Center.
