Grand Haven’s Lindy Vallier qualified for the Division 1 skiing state meet after a fantastic effort at Thursday’s regional event, held at Boyne Highlands.

Vallier placed 14th in the slalom and will ski in that event at the state finals, to be held on Boyne Mountain on Feb. 25. She was 28th in the giant slalom event.

As a team, the Buccaneers’ girls placed fifth in the slalom and sixth in the giant slalom, while the boys took sixth in the slalom and eighth in the GS.

The Bucs’ Casey Davis, a sophomore, had a strong meet, taking 20th in the giant slalom and 25th in the slalom.

Also in the slalom race, Baily Coval was 28th, Hailey Watkins 29th, Hannah Landman 30th and Alexandra Gust 34th. In the giant slalom, Coval placed 30th, Landman 31st, Watkins 34th, and Gust, just a freshman, 37th.

Lukas Walling and Greg Page nearly joined Vallier at the state meet as they placed 17th and 18th, respectively, in the slalom event. Kevin Stolarski took 30th in the slalom, followed by Jack Griffin in 32nd place and Jack Leitner in 34th.

In the giant slalom, Stolarski led the way with a 29th-place finish. Walling was 32nd, Leitner 37th, Luke Blauvelt 45th, Griffin 47th and Page 50th.
