For the first time in program history, Grand Haven's varsity hockey team has won a regional championship.

The Buccaneers overwhelmed O-K Tier I rival Forest Hills Northern/Eastern on Saturday, 6-2, at Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo.

The game was tied at 2-2 when the Bucs' Asa Pellegrom lit the lamp to break the tie. Ian Hibbard scored back-to-back goals in the second period to jump-start the game.

No. 10-ranked Grand Haven advances to the state quarterfinals, where they'll face Saginaw Heritage on Tuesday at Big Rapids. Heritage upset No. 4-ranked Escanaba on Saturday.
