Lukkari, SL swimmers fail to advance to finals

Spring Lake diver Erik Lukkari’s final effort on the diving board didn’t go as well as he’d hoped.

The Lakers’ senior, competing in the Division 3 state meet at Eastern Michigan University on Friday, sat in 14th place after the semifinal round with a score of 260.70.                                            

None of the Lakers’ swimmers qualified for today’s finals, which feature the top 16 individuals or relay teams in each event.

The Lakers’ 200-yard medley relay team of Jesse Ruter, Noah Rick, Blake Henning and Connor Love barely missed advancing to the finals. That foursome swam a time of 1:45.79, good for 19th place.

Ruter also narrowly missed out on the finals individually in the 100 freestyle. His time of 49.72 seconds was good for 19th place. Ruter was 22nd in the 100 backstroke at 57.36 seconds.

Henning was 34th in Friday’s prelims of the 100 butterfly at 59.12 seconds.

The Lakers’ 200 freestyle relay team of Love, Noah Rick, Davis Allison and Keon Rick qualified 24th with a time of 1:34.91.


Grand Haven diver Casey Carlson sits in 10th place after the semifinal round at the Division 1 state meet in Holland with a score of 269.70.

Teammate Griffin Dwyer is 19th at 237.45.

The 200 medley relay team of Josh Tooker, Josh Nicholson, Austin Bessinger and Rory Thibault took 21st in 1:42.22.

The Bucs’ 200 freestyle relay team of Spencer Poort, Thibault, Trey Jennings and Bessinger finished 24th in 1:31.00, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Poort, Noah Baker, Jennings and Bessinger swam to a 25th-place finish at 3:22.11.

Individually, Poort placed 29th in the 200 freestyle prelims at 1:48.43. He was 35th in the 100 freestyle at 49.90 seconds.
