Grand Haven’s varsity boys lacrosse team scored its second consecutive lopsided victory to open the year, thumping Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Tuesday, 14-1.
This win comes on the heels of Saturday’s 16-3 victory over Mattawan.
Monday’s contest saw junior attack Jake Bouman pour in four goals, while juniors Jared VanOordt and Jake Vieau added three each.
Junior Trevor McNamara added two goals and an assist for the Bucs.
Locks stick middie Ryan Maguire once again led the team in ground balls, while brothers Matt Olson and Jeff Olson were dominant on face-offs.
In all, 10 different players contributed to the Bucs’ 14 goals.
“This was another solid performance by the whole team,” coach Murle Greer said. “The defense really takes the pressure off the goalie by creating turnovers and clearing the ball well. Our middies and attack also ride aggressively, which keeps the ball on our side of the field.
“This is a great way to start the season in which we are moving to Tier 1 with more talented competition. The guys are listening to the calls and playing with class. We are right where we should be, but we need to stay hungry and keep improving.”
Junior Varsity: Grand Haven scored a 3-2 triple overtime win over Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Tuesday. Austin Shiflette, A.J. Dahlman and Cole Kramer scored for the Bucs. Dalhman and Kramer also had an assist, while Tristan Groh made eight saves in goal.
