Grand Haven graduate Danielle Reenders recently added her name to the record books at Trine University.
Reenders’ throw in the javelin of 38.03 meters (124 feet, 77 inches) not only took first-place honors at the Goshen College Track and Field Invitational on March 28, but also set a new school record.
Reenders’ distance in the event is also the best effort in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Reenders, a senior, didn’t compete in the recent MIAA Jamboree at Olivet College, but she’ll have a chance to showcase her talent again at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
THOMAS HAVING STRONG SENIOR SEASON
Emily Thomas has already had a stellar three seasons of cross country and track at Lewis and Clark University in Portland, Ore.
Her senior season on the track is shaping up to be just as outstanding.
Thomas, a Grand Haven graduate, finished second in both the 800- and 1,500-meter runs for the Pioneers at Saturday’s Luau Meet, hosted by the Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore.
Thomas clocked in with a time of 2 minutes, 22.40 seconds in the 800, and a time of 4.44.78 in the 1,500. She was beaten out in both races by teammate Heather Spurling.
Thomas holds school records at the school in the 3,000- 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs — all of which were set during the 2012 outdoor season.
