Grand Haven’s varsity softball team scored its first victories of the season on Saturday following its sweep of visiting Forest Hills Eastern.
Sophomore RJ Morrow had a strong performance in the opener, a 9-6 Bucs’ win. Grand Haven’s starting pitcher didn’t allow a hit in four innings of work, and also swung a big bat with a double and single.
Freshman Jordan Buckingham added a double, while Madison Barshaw had three singles, while Louisa Johnson, Emily Shaler, and Cheyenne Ray added two hits apiece.
Game 2 was decided after just four innings, as Grand Haven’s offense exploded in its 19-3 mercy-shortened victory.
Buckingham and Morrow each connected for triples for the Bucs, with Morrow’s blast landing approximately 215 feet away.
Katelyn Messer, Morrow and Shaler each tallied doubles for the Bucs.
Morrow allowed just one hit, one walk and no runs in three innings in the pitching circle, while freshman Audrey Boersen pitched an inning of relief.
The Bucs’ best defensive gem came in the third, as Madison Barshaw caught a fly in centerfield, then gunned a throw home to catcher Kaylee Hartwell in time to tag out a Forest Hills Eastern base runner at the plate.
