Spring Lake varsity golf coach George Bitner received a pleasant surprise on Tuesday.

The Lakers’ No. 5 golfer, Harrison Swanson, shot a team-best round of 39, helping the Lakers capture first place at the Orchard View Jamboree.

Swanson was followed by Bricker Reed and Ben Kramer, each with a round of 40, and Henry McGannon with a 41.

That gave Spring Lake a team score of 160, which was 14 strokes better than second-place Orchard View.

Ludington was third at 176, followed by Fremont with a 177, Fruitport with a 190 and Tri-County with a 193.

“We had a nice bundling of scores, and the scoring is good for this early in the season,” said Bitner, whose team is gunning for its fourth straight league title. “What I liked was, in the 45 holes we played, we only had three double bogeys.”

Fruitport was led by Colton Blanchard, who shot a 45. Bryant Rebone added a 46, Austin Buckingham shot a 47, and Austin Randolph carded a 52.

The Lakers return to action on Friday at the Ottawa County Invitational at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale.
