Grand Haven’s varsity girls tennis team placed fifth out of six teams at Monday’s O-K Red Conference tournament.

The Buccaneers finished with 19 points.

Hudsonville was crowned the tournament champion with 44 points, followed by West Ottawa with 33, Grandville with 30 and Rockford with 26.

East Kentwood was last with 16 points.

The tournament actually started on Saturday, but after just two rounds, the event was rained out, forcing it to be wrapped up on Monday.

“There were a lot of tough-fought matches in all flights,” said Bucs’ coach Jamie Franson.

The Buccaneers’ best finish came at No. 3 doubles, where Lauren Kruggle and Allison Cotter finished runner-up.

Meghan Hendrickson had a strong showing at No. 2 singles.

“She went a tough two sets or to a third set in all her matches,” Franson said.

The Bucs now turn their attention to the Division 1 regional meet, which will be held at Holland on Friday. Only the top three teams advance out of the regional competition.
