GH soccer can't upset No. 6-ranked Falcons

The sixth-ranked East Kentwood girls soccer team held off an upset-minded Grand Haven squad on Tuesday as the Falcons downed the Buccaneers, 2-1.

East Kentwood got on the scoreboard just moments before halftime, but the Bucs regained momentum 7:41 into the second half as Courtney Springer buried a shot in the net, assisted by Taylor DeWitt.

Junior Varsity: Grand Haven and East Kentwood played to a 0-0 tie. Maggie McDonald and Emma McDonald played well for the Bucs, as did Hannah Landman, Bailey Colella and Allison Berger. Lindsey Sherman was outstanding in goal.

Freshmen: The Bucs pounded East Kentwood, 8-0. Alaina Hager scored five minutes into the game, setting the tone for the Bucs. Emma Grove scored back-to-back goals for the Bucs, as did Sydney Borchers. Taylor Face, Sydney Borchers, Emma Fritz and Ravyn DeWitt each added single goals.
