Spring Lake’s varsity golf team — aided by an 18-hole score of 77 from senior Henry McGannon — took top honors at the Montague Invite on Friday.

The invite scored team’s top two players and then two “best ball” scores. The Lakers finished with a 313, which beat out runner-up Reeths-Puffer by three strokes. McGannon’s score was good for second medalist at the event.

Grand Haven was fourth out of five teams in the Division 1-2 field with a 358. The Bucs fielded their reserve lineup and were led by Alex Crandle’s 86.

Bricker Reed carded an 84 for Spring Lake, while Michael Aspenson shot a 92.

Grand Haven’s Casey Davis continued her recent torrid scoring streak, as she fired in eight goals on Friday in the Bucs’ heartbreaking 14-13 loss to Grand Rapids Christian.

Davis also led her team with four ground ball controls. Anna Gagnon added three goals for the Bucs, while Courtney Hylok and Katie Harding each had three ground balls.

Bucs’ goalie Stephanie Szymas made 12 saves on 26 shots on goal. With the loss, Grand Haven falls to 7-6 overall.
