Grand Haven’s varsity golf team is using tournaments such as Monday’s Mona Shores Invitational to prepare the Bucs for the postseason.

Grand Haven seems to be headed in the right direction after it placed fifth in the 18-team field with a 330 in the event, which was played at Muskegon Country Club.

Mona Shores had all four of its golfers score in the 70s and won the event with a 302 — 14 shots better than runner-up Detroit Catholic Central. Traverse City West was third with a 321, followed by Brighton’s 326.

Reid Murphy fired the low round for the Bucs with a 79. Matt Nalley carded an 81, followed by Mark Nalley’s 84 and Patrick Ferris’ 86.
