Young Bucs run well at all-star meet

The Grand Haven Girls showed they have a great future ahead of them with several great performance from the West Michigan All-Star Meet held at Muskegon Reeths-Puffer High School on Wednesday.
Most impressive in the meet were a slew of talented sprinters led in the 100-meter dash as sisters Maggie Lalonde (13.66) and Abbie Lalonde (13.77) took fourth and sixth places, respectively.
The two sisters also teamed up on the 400 relay team to take an impressive third with Ozette Ostrow, Maggie Lalonde, Mikaela Kroll in a season best of 52.08.
Also running a season PR was the 800 relay team of Burnside, Claire VanWieren, Maggie Lalonde and Maddie Sanchez in1:51.46. Burnside also ran a PR in the 200 with 27.79 taking fifth.
“Those Lalonde sisters have been a great addition to our team this year,” coach John Tarr said. “I told all these sprinters that we ran some very competitive sprint times today proving what I’ve said all season that this year we will be good, but next year we will be great.”
Grace Kendra came back from a slight injury to place second in the pole vault at 11 feet.
“Her quad is feeling better and she was able to get in some good jumps tonight,” Tarr said. “She’ll be great at the state meet.”
Malea Teerman also place second in the 800 running a PR of 2:23.38 and led the 1600 relay to a fifth place finish along with Olivia Buikema, Mikayla Takas and Abbie Lalonde with a 4:24.51.
Spring Lake’ sAustin Elliott had a strong meet, taking third in the 1,600 run at 4:24.97, and placing fifth in the 800 run at 1:56.82.
The 3,200 relay team of Jake Chittenden, Tom Kordupel, Connor Galligan and Elliott took third at 8:13.04, while Matt Batts was fifth in the pole vault at 13-0.
Western Michigan Christian athletes had a strong showing on Wednesday, led by Rachel Bruinsma, who took second in the high jump at 5-2.
Jasmine Jackson was fifth in the 400 at 1:02.6, while Olivia Varnado took sixth in the discus at 91-1. For the boys, the 3,200 relay team ran well.
