Grand Haven’s varsity softball team saw its season come to a close with a 13-4 loss to Mona Shores on Saturday in the semifinal round of the Division 1 district tournament at Kenowa Hills.

Buccaneers’ pitcher R.J. Morrow allowed 14 hits and three walks. She struck out four batters.

The defense behind her was miserable, committing 10 errors. That allowed Mona Shores to break open a close game as the Sailors scored eight runs in the seventh inning.

Madison Barshaw and Jordan Buckingham each belted a double, while Morrow was 3-for-4 with a trio of singles and a run driven in.

Kaylee Hartwell went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, while Cheyanne Ray, Emily Shaler and Cierra Slocum each drove in a run.

Junior varsity call-ups Kylee Masko and Larisa Garza did well as courtesy runners for the Bucs.

The Sailors beat Reeths-Puffer later in the day, 11-0, to claim their third consecutive district championship.
