After eight hard days of riding, Chris Ragsdale is more than two-thirds of the way done with his bike ride across the country.

Ragdale, a Grand Haven native now living in Seattle, is competing in the Race Against America (RAAM), a nearly 3,000-mile race that started in Oceanside, Calif., last week and wraps up in a few days in Annapolis, Md.

Ragsdale reached a checkpoint in Bloomington, Ind., at 5:09 p.m. Wednesday. His cumulative time upon reaching the checkpoint was 8 days, 1 hour, 17 minutes.

With an average speed of 11.71 mph, Ragsdale had covered 2,263 miles upon reaching the Bloomington checkpoint. That left him with 726 miles remaining.

Christoph Strasser of Austria finished the race in 7 days, 22 hours, 52 minutes. As of Wednesday evening, he was the only participant to finish the race.
