The Tri-Cities Strikers 3v3 Summer Soccer Classic will take place Saturday on Harbor Island.

The event is open to boys and girls in age groups from U-9 to adults. Nearly 70 teams are signed up to compete.

The tournament serves as a fundraiser for the Strikers travel soccer club and helps create opportunities for youngsters who might not otherwise be able to join the club.

“This tournament is put on for a fundraiser for the talented soccer players who can’t afford the club fees,” said tournament director Jon Trowbridge. “Right now, we have 16, 17 Strikers teams. They’re made up of kids from Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg, we get some Fruitport people, and maybe a few Muskegon kids.”

The format of the tournament is 3-on-3, with a goalie and two field players on the pitch for each team.

“It’s fast paced,” Trowbridge said. “It’s almost like a Gus Macker tournament but for soccer.”

The deadline to join the tournament is tonight at 8. Visit tricitiesstrikers.com to register.
