A four-run first inning paved the way for an easy victory over Missouri for the NOYSA All-Stars in the Little League regional tournament on Monday.
Leah Vaughan drilled an RBI double to start the onslaught for NOYSA, then came in to score on a base hit by Taylor Dew.
Lauren Hellmen then blasted a two-run homer to make it 4-0 before Missouri had even had a chance to bat.
Hellman finished with three hits, five RBIs and two runs scored.
Missouri chipped away with a run in the bottom of the first, but four more runs in the top of the second sealed the deal for the NOYSA All-Stars.
Madelyn Nelson walked and moved around to third base, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Paggeot.
Vaughan then reached on an error, and Dew followed with a single.
Hellman reached on an error, scoring Vaughan, then both Dew and Hellman came around to score on a wild pitch and an ensuing throwing error.
In the third inning, Vaughan scored on a base hit by Hellman, then Dew scored on a wild pitch.
The fourth inning saw four more runs come across, invoking the mercy rule in the 14-1 victory.
Vaughan and Dew each scored three runs, while Nelson scored twice.
Paggeott finished with two hits, as did Dew.
Kileah Rymal drove in a pair of runs.
Nelson and Jenna Core combined to shut down Missouri from the pitchers’ circle. Nelson pitched the first two innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out one.
Core pitched the final two innings of no-hit ball, surrendering three walks while striking out one.
NOYSA had a 10-1 advantage in hits. Missouri committed five errors on the day.
