Children looking for a fun summer activity usually can’t go wrong with running, swimming or biking. On Aug. 10, they’ll have a chance to do all three.

The Spring Lake Community Fitness & Aquatic Center will host a kid’s triathlon for children aged 8 to 15 in search of a fun athletic challenge.

The event, sponsored by Shoreline Sport & Spine and the Grand Haven Tribune, will consist of a 100-yard swim, 2.5-mile bike ride and a 1-mile run for participants between 8 and 11 years old.

Racers over the age of 11 will go up against an even tougher course consisting of a 200-yard swim, 5-mile bike ride and 2 mile run.

All road portions of the race will take place at Spring Lake High School and on the bike path on Leonard Road.

The entry fee is $25 for Spring Lake Community members and $35 for non-members. All participants will receive an award, while the top-3 male and female finishers will receive additional prizes.

Free clinics will be available at the Spring Lake Community Fitness & Aquatic Center for people who want to receive training tips and learn more about what to expect from a triathlon.  A mandatory meeting will be held at 8:30 am the morning of the race.

The only requirements to participate are a two-wheeled bicycle and safety helmet.

Of course, a positive attitude and competitive spirit won’t hurt either.
