Erin O’Keefe finished fifth with a time of 19 minutes, 6 seconds. She was immediately followed by teammate Carlyn Arteaga, who crossed the finish line a second later.
Ashley Warner (24th, 20:11), Anna Huizenga (38th, 20:32), Brooke Carrier (45th, 20:40) and Skyler Gilchrist (53rd, 20:49) also finished in the top 100.
There were 256 racers total.
“It’s been a nice surprise the last few years in that our girls really look forward to these big races,” said coach Aaron Andres, whose team finished with 118 points, well ahead of second-place East Grand Rapids (139) in the Bronze (Division 2) race.
“This meet is a really good gauge of where we are,” Andres added. “All week, I’ve been saying that if we want to consider ourselves one of the top teams in the state, we have to excel in a meet like this.”
The Lakers are off for a week and will open Lakes Eight Conference action at Fremont on Sept. 24.
LAKERS’ BOYS PLACE 16th
The Spring Lake boys team placed 16th out of 32 teams at Friday’s MSU Spartan Invitational.
William Morrison was the top finisher for the Lakers. His time of 18:06 was good for 58th place.
Other top 100 finishers for Spring Lake were Connor Bolthouse (75th, 18:22) and Lukas Piekarski (77th, 18:23).
"The entire team had a productive day today,” said coach Greg Brown. “Over half of the runners at the meet today ran their best times of the season."
