SL girls basketball falls at Shelby

A few days after stealing a road win at Fruitport, Spring Lake’s varsity girls basketball team tried to do it again at Shelby on Monday, but came up just short.
Shelby’s Tristen Moore scored on a contested layup with 15 seconds remaining to give the host Tigers a 43-41 win over the Lakers.
After Moore’s shot, Spring Lake raced down the court looking for the tie, but lost the ball before getting it back and calling a timeout with 4 seconds remaining.
The Lakers couldn’t get a good look at the basket in those final few seconds.
“It was a close game, but I’m not sure it was a good game,” said Lakers’ coach Rich Hyde, whose team is now 4-6 on the season. “It was one of those Monday games, kind of sluggish, and we just couldn’t get our defensive legs going until late in the game.”
The Lakers trailed by 11 points, 36-25, late in the third quarter, but closed the third with a bucket, then scored the first nine points of the fourth to tie the game at 36-all.
