Grand Haven’s varsity girls soccer team wrapped up its regular-season schedule with a 1-0 win over Fruitport on Friday.
The Bucs’ Mya Copado scored the game’s lone goal with just two seconds remaining in the first half.
Fruitport had the advantage of shots — 9-2 — but the Bucs’ Faith Platz made five saves in net.
Monica Holden had one save for the Trojans.
“This was a great game for us to get ready for districts,” said Trojans’ coach Jeannie McClain. “We played with great energy and it was great to see that we could generate opportunities against a very solid Grand Haven team. Even with the late goal before half, we didn’t hang our heads and came back stronger in the second half.
“Not the result we wanted, but we’ll continue to build.”
The Trojans host Sparta in the opening round of the Division 2 district tournament on Tuesday while Grand Haven plays at West Ottawa in Division 1 district action, also on Tuesday.
Junior Varsity: Grand Haven finished its season with a 3-0 win over Fruitport. Raven Dewitt, Eliza Lowe and Lexi Veenstra scored goals for the Bucs, while Madi Steggles, Emma Fritz and Leah Holman had assists. Goalies Jordanne Ellinboe and Lindsey Sherman shared time and earned the shutout.
