Britni Gielow will attempt to defend her Spring Lake Invitational Tournament championship this week, beginning with today’s Championship Flight opener against a familiar face.

Gielow, a Spring Lake Country Club member, will face fellow SLCC member Michele Yasenak, who qualified for the Championship Flight with a round of 86 in Monday’s stroke play qualifying.

The top qualifying score went to Jenny Sritragul, a native of Bangkok, Thailand who is a junior at Michigan State University. Sritragul shot a 5-under-par roiund of 67 to earn the second seed in the Championship Flight. She’ll face off against Chris Zeigler, who shot an 86 on Monday.

The third seed is Maureen Whitehead, who carded a 79. She’ll meet the sixth seed, Karel Bailey, who qualified with an 85.

The final Championship Flight match features Donna Benford (79) and Susan Campbell (81).

SLCC’s Kathy Eisenga was the top qualifier for the First Flight with a round of 87. Also qualifying for the First Flight were Deb Rogers (89), Diane Kiino (89), Jayme Heimonen (90), Karen Plaiser (90), Margaret Nault (90), Nancy Vigland (91) and Pam Tyler (92).

Karen VandeVrede (93), Sue Boman (93), Bobbi Ferreira (93), Jean Murray (93), Kim Noe (93), Becky Ryder (98), Heidi Lemmen (99) and SLCC’s Emma Conroy (100) qualified for the Second Flight.
