Heavy rain may have cancelled Wednesday’s play at the Spring Lake Invitational, but Jenny Sritragul was the biggest storm to blow through the course.
The Michigan State senior-to-be set the tournament’s lowest qualifying score since the course was changed in 2000, on Monday, shooting a five-under-par round of seven of 67 in Monday’s qualifying round.
On Thursday, she finished what she started, defeating last year’s champion Britni Gielow in the final, 6 and 5.
“I’m just really proud of myself,” said Sritragul, a native of Thailand. “I’m glad that the work I put in has paid off finally. I haven’t won in a while, so this one means a lot to me.”
Weather did force changes in the invitational. Wednesday’s semifinal matches were moved to Thursday morning, and the final round shrank from 18 to 15 holes, with several of the holes altered due to the excess water on the course.
