GH middle school equestrian clinches district title

In the two-day meet held at the Mason County Fairgrounds in Ludington, riders representing Grand Haven’s Lakeshore and White Pines middle schools competed in the B Division of the Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association.
Grand Haven won the first day’s meet with 170 points. Shelby and Montague tied for second with 150, Fremont came in third with 149 and Hart was fourth with 136.
Experienced riders Cassidy Ryder and Mara Tillman led the way for the Buccaneers in their final year as Junior Team riders. In the first meet, Ryder managed three class wins and a total of 55 points. Tillman garnered two class wins and a total of 52 points.
Reece Redder took two wins and a total of 23 points. Paige Beland had one win and 20 points. Ashlynne McKee and Alexa Wolff each added 10 points to the team total.
The second meet on Sunday was just as successful for the Bucs. Ryder had an exceptional day with five class wins and a total of 66 points. Tillman had three class wins and a total of 50 points. Reece Redder had two class wins and a total of 28 points. Ashlynne McKee had one class win and 23 points. Alexa Wolff added 24 points, while Paige Beland chipped in with 17. Grand Haven ended the second meet with 208 points. Fremont finished second with 155 points. Shelby and Montague tied for a second straight day, with 138 points, and Hart’s 97 put it in fourth once again.
The Equitation over Fences class was an exceptional class for the Bucs, with Tillman and McKee placing first and second respectively both days. In Saddle Seat Showmanship Ryder, Tillman and Beland placed first, second and fourth on Day 1 and first, second and third on Day 2 giving them the highest single class total for a team at the meet.
