Spring Lake’s varsity girls golf team is off to a sizzling start to its season.

Last Thursday, the Lakers won the Hamilton Invitational at Diamond Springs Golf Course, shooting a 307. St. Joseph was second in the 11-team event with a 336.

The Lakers’ Anna Kramer shot a career-best 70 to take medalist honors. Emma Conroy was second with her best-ever score of 77, seven shots better than her previous low.

Kayla Krueger shot a 79 to place fourth, while Ginny Olszewski carded an 81, good for fifth place.

Freshman Madelyn Nelson shot an 82, and senior Karissa Raschke added an 89.

“We had more birdies than double bogeys,” said coach George Bitner. “That’s unheard of.”

The Lakers’ 149 on the front nine was a new nine-hole school record.

On Friday, Spring Lake won the Jenison Invitational with a 314. East Kentwood was second with a 321.

Kramer shot a 74, followed by Jaedyn Shelton with a 76, Conroy with an 81 and Krueger with an 82.

Olszewski added an 87, and Nelson shot a 94.

“This was a good score for The Meadows,” Bitner said. “We won it with a 355 last year, and we were 41 strokes better this year.”
