Fruitport, SL volleyball teams shine

Fruitport’s varsity girls volleyball team swept its three opponents during Monday’s Lakes Eight-West Michigan Conference crossover meet.

The Trojans beat North Muskegon, 25-10, 25-17; beat Muskegon Catholic, 25-19, 25-17; and pounded Mason County Central, 25-9, 25-7.

Setter Alyssa Veihl had a strong outing, finishing with 58 assists and seven kills.


Spring Lake scored a pair of victories on Monday, beating Ravenna, 25-18, 25-22, then topping Oakridge, 25-15, 27-29, 15-2.

Abby Moe had 43 assists, six aces and two blocks, while Kelsee Zuidema dominated at the net with 25 kills, 17 digs and four blocks.

Olivia Grimmer added 12 kills, eight digs and two blocks, while Emma Suchecki had 19 digs.

Both Spring Lake and Fruitport will compete in the Battle at the Boardwalk on Wednesday, with matches beginning at 3:30 p.m.
