Sophomore Gabby Hentemann finished first overall with a time of 19 minutes, 29.9 seconds to pace the Bucs, while sophomore Abby Buitenhuis finished sixth (21:07.45); senior Eliza Lowe finished seventh (21:08.32); junior Emily Mattson finished ninth (21:13.71) and senior Andrea Strainer finished 10th (21:21.29).
GH boys finish runner-up
The Grand Haven boys cross country team finished second in the Black Division at the Kenowa Hills Invite with 36 points. Caledonia recorded 26 points to edge the Bucs in the final standings, while Grandville finished third with 90 points.
Junior Jack Nicholson finished first overall with a time of 16 minutes, 29.67 seconds, while senior Quentin Couvelaire finished sixth (17:15.71); senior Eric Johnson finished seventh (17:28.84) and senior Dominic Hentemann finished eighth (17:37.86).
Spring Lake boys XC wins Gold Division at Kenowa Hills
The Spring Lake boys cross country team won the Gold Division race at the Kenowa Hills Invitational on Saturday. The Lakers recorded 73 points to take top team honors, while East Grand Rapids (84) and Zeeland West (90) finished second and third, respectively.
Sophomore Andrew Hylen finished sixth overall with a time of 17 minutes, 44.18 seconds to lead the Lakers, while junior Cameron Thalhammer finished eighth (17:51.55) and senior Matt Schmidt finished ninth (17:56.56).
Laker girls finish fifth
The Spring Lake girls cross country team recorded 121 points to finish fifth in the Gold Division of the Kenowa Hills Invitational on Saturday. East Grand Rapids took top team honors with 18 points, followed by Forest Hills Northern (70) in second place and Middleville Thornapple Kellogg (115) in third.
Sophomore Annie Cooper paced the Lakers with a time of 21 minutes, 44.02 seconds, while freshman Maggie Cooper added a time of 21:45.64 and freshman Taylor Rebone added a time of 21:51.55.
Fruitport boys cross country wins Big Red Invite
The Fruitport boys cross country team tallied 68 points to finish first overall the Big Red Invitational on Saturday at Muskegon High School. Montague finished second with 92 points, while Holland Black River finished third with 97 points.
Senior Aaron Simot finished first overall to pace the Fruitport boys team with a time of 16 minutes, 31 seconds, while fellow senior Mitch Johnson added a third-place finished at 17:01.
Trojan girls finish eighth
The Fruitport girls cross country team finished eighth at the Big Red Invite with 196 points. Reeths-Puffer won the event with 33 points, followed by Plainwell (103) and Mona Shores (114).
Freshman Faith Clark led the girls team with a time of 23:04, while junior Kendra Johnson ran a 23:11.
Grand Haven tennis finishes fourth at Traverse City
The Grand Haven boys tennis team finished in fourth place at the Traverse City Invitational on Friday. Clarkston won the invite with 19 points, Traverse City Central was second with 17 and Forest Hills Eastern had seven, while the Bucs finished with five points.
Leading the way for the Bucs was Riley Wilton with two wins on the day. Noah Bachmann, Spencer Sortman and Nathan Sexton won their matches against Forest Hills Eastern.
“This event had three teams that went to state meet last year, and they will likely make it there again,” said Grand Haven coach Chris Wilton. “Clarkston and Traverse City Central are high-quality teams as well as Forest Hills Eastern. The good news is that our team ended 4-4 head-to-head with Forest Hills, and our doubles really played great in the final round, almost pulling off all four of their matches. They competed until the end, and they are finding their best way to play to compete at a high level.”
The Bucs jump back into conference play on Wednesday at home against Caledonia.
