The Lakers carded a 343 on Friday to take a 13-stroke lead over Goodrich (356) for the top spot on the leaderboard.
Notre Dame Prep currently sits at third (362), while Detroit Country Day (364) holds down the fourth-place spot. No. 1 ranked Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood came in at fifth (365) and Grand Rapids South Christian is in sixth (374).
Senior Anna Kramer carded a 78 to lead the Lakers, while senior Jackie Olszewski added an 87. Sophomore Hannah Klein and junior Madelyn Nelson each carded 89s and senior Jaedyn Shelton had a 93.
“We are the only team in the field to not record a triple-digit individual score,” said Spring Lake coach George Bitner. “We did pretty well today, but I think the girls will put together a better round tomorrow, now that they’ve gotten through an entire round on the course.”
GH equestrian in the drivers seat
The Grand Haven equestrian team recorded 57 points after the opening round of the Division B state finals on Thursday to take an eight-point lead over Oxford (49) at the Midland Country Fairgrounds.
Trail was a huge class for Grand Haven scoring, with the Bucs taking 51 of the 57 total points available. Lily Atkinson and her horse Truman won the class under both judges. Rya Greene and her horse Sydney placed second under judge one and third under judge two. Alli Ruble and her horse Mandy placed third under judge one and fifth under judge two.
The four-day competition will conclude on Sunday.
