SL swim team has strong showing at Hudsonville
The Spring Lake boys swim and dive team took on the Hudsonville Invitational on Saturday, coming away with a third-place finish behind Division 1 competitors Hudsonville and Rockford.
The Lakers' 200-yard medley relay team of Joey Wachter, Will Brown, Kevin Losee and Cam Peel finished runner-up with a time of 1 minute, 37.31 seconds to kick things off for Spring Lake.
Losee added a runner-up finish in the 200 individual medley (2:04.9), while teammate Drew Fogel (2:05.96) finished fourth.
Peel finished runner-up in the 50 freestyle race (21.51 seconds) and third in the 500 freestyle (4:54.99), while Wachter finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.08 seconds.
Losee, Fogel, Wachter, and Peel teamed up for a runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle with a time of 3:15.89.
In the diving competition, Noah Locascio continued to showcase his consistency, finishing third in a field of 27 divers with a score of 221.6. Teammate Jaiden Lewis scored 122.25 points to finish in 23rd place.
GH-SL hockey scores overtime win
The Grand Haven-Spring Lake co-op hockey team scored a dramatic 5-4 overtime win over Hudsonville on Friday.
The Buccaneers and Eagles were tied 1-1 after the first period before Grand Haven took a 3-2 lead after the second period.
Hudsonville forced overtime with a two-goal outing in the third period to knot the scoreboard at 4-4.
Grand Haven was poised in the sudden-death session, scoring the game-winning goal to take the 5-4 decision.
Jake Johnson scored two goals to lead the Bucs (7-7-2), while Austin Fox added one goal and one assist.
Ethan Pennington and Jax Plumert also lit the lamp for Grand Haven, while Trevor Kalis added two assists and Cooper Fox, Kyle Eveland, and T.J. Cunningham each dished out one assist.
Finn Bylsma picked up the win in net.
The Buccaneers return to the ice Wednesday, as they host Northview (11-5) at 7 p.m.
Fruitport wrestling goes 2-2
The Fruitport wrestling team finished 2-2 at the Randy Jacobs Memorial Duals on Saturday at Montague High School.
The Trojans defeated the host Wildcats (60-15) and Ravenna (44-36) but dropped contests to Hamilton (42-33) and Orchard View (34-33).
Zach Sykes (112 pounds), Crue Cooper (171), Dominic Dault (125) and Dallas Rogers (285) each finished 4-0 on the day, while Connor Sykes added a 3-1 performance.
The Trojans will host a double dual Wednesday before preparing for the team district tournament.
