Senior Morgan Ross recorded 10 kills and four aces to lead the Bucs (39-8, 3-2 O-K Red), while junior Olivia Boeve added 10 kills and two aces.
Senior Katie Cole led the team in assists with 33, while fellow senior Sophia Newhouse led the team with 22 digs and freshman Ashley Slater led the team with two blocks.
“Morgan and Olivia both had a solid night for us,” said Grand Haven coach Aaron Smaka. “Claire (Holman) and Maddy (Housenga) did a great job in the middle, too. Maddy came in and got all four of her kills in the third set and really gave us a spark when we needed it.
“I thought we did a nice job of serving aggressively and that really helped us. Our defense did a really good job of digging out balls and keeping plays alive. Katie was able to get the offense moving smoothly and Sophia did a great job digging the ball out.”
The Bucs now prepare for Senior Night on Tuesday against Grandville.
Junior varsity: The Grand Haven junior varsity squad won the Jenison invitational tournament last Saturday. The Buccaneers defeated Gull Lake in the semifinals and host Jenison in the finals.
Ashley Slater led the team in kills with 44, while Sarah Knoll added 33. Baby Hang and Dahlia Jerovsek each recorded nine aces, while Avery Strohmeyer and Olivia McMullen each added eight blocks. Emma Martin led the team in assists with 91.
SL spikers fall to Coopersville
The Spring Lake volleyball team couldn’t keep pace with host Coopersville on Thursday, falling to the Broncos, 21-25, 19-25 and 11-25.
Senior Olivia Grimmer recorded seven kills and 13 digs to lead the Lakers (12-16, 5-5 O-K Blue), while junior Lauren Hellman added six kills, 13 digs and three blocks.
Caitie Estep led the team in assists with 21 and aces with four.
Junior varsity: Spring Lake defeated Coopersville, 25-14, 20-25 and 15-6. Taylor Colquitt had seven kills and five digs to lead the Lakers (31-3, 10-0 O_K Blue), while Abbi Perkins added six kills and five digs. Madeline Zenas had 26 assists and two aces.
Freshmen: Spring Lake defeated Coopersville, 25-22 and 25-20.
SL swim team celebrates Senior Night with win
The Spring Lake girls swim team celebrated Senior Night at its last home meet of the season on Thursday at the Spring Lake Aquatic Center. The Lakers came away with a 107-74 win over Hudsonville Unity Christian.
Celebrating their final home meet for the Lakers were: Annie Brechting, Allison Brown, Meghan Peel, Jen Meulenbelt, Madison Smith, Jo Ruter, Carly Komar, Taylor Hoffman, Ana West, Lorenne Gilbert and Tatum Johnson.
“They have been an extremely hard working and dedicated senior class, and I know they are all going to continue to be excellent leaders in all they do in the future,” said Spring Lake Ellen Wiese.
The Spring Lake divers had a strong showing as well, finishing in the top three spots. Audra Bialik took first place with a score of 205.4, Ronnie Russell came in second at 172.4 and Ellie Higgs was third with 163.95 points.
Fruitport soccer wins big on Senior Night
The Fruitport boys soccer team celebrated a successful Senior Night on Thursday, drubbing Orchard View, 6-2.
All 10 Trojan seniors got the start today, and used a quick start to pull away early.
Junior Zack Shane scored five goals to lead the Trojans (10-8-1), while senior Isaac Fitzgerald added one.
Senior keeper Connor Werschem made seven saves in net.
The Trojans now turn their attention to the Division 2 district tournament, where they will host Sparta on Monday at 6 p.m.
