Winter weather advisory for Thursday

A winter weather advisory for Ottawa County is in effect Thursday between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m.

The advisory area also includes Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson counties.

The National Weather Service said rain will be changing to snow by late morning. Snow, heavy at times, into mid-afternoon.

Total snow accumulations of 1-3 inches are expected. Significantly higher local amounts are possible.

Plan on slippery road conditions from late morning through the afternoon and evening, including during the Thursday evening commute. Be prepared for significantly reduced visibilities at times.

Grand Haven forecast:

Thursday: Rain and snow, becoming all rain after 5 p.m. High near 38. Breezy, with an east-northeast wind 16-21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Thursday night: A 40 percent chance of snow before 1 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 29. North-northwest wind 11-13 mph.
