Rich evil RACIST Koch brothers give $25 million (they found in one of their smoking jacket pocket while picking out the lint) to the United Negro College Fund. MSNBC reports are they made the donation as an ironic gesture.

Twenty-six of the 51 members of the New York City Council have written a letter to Walmart and the Walton Family Foundation demanding that the company stop making donations to New York City charities. “Stop sending your dangerous dollars in our city,” the letter orders. “Your toxic money is being rejected by New York City today.” http://www.nationalreview.com/co...

The $$ are so much cleaner if stolen from the taypaying working stiffs. . . .

"The $$ are so much cleaner if stolen from the taypaying (sic) working stiffs. . ."

Are you referring to the taxpaying working stiff money that is providing SNAP, Obamacare subsidies, and other benefits (Head Start, school lunches, etc) to thousands of Walmart employees who are paid so little by Walmart they actually qualify for government aid?

And then Walmart turns around and, with the profits made off the backs of taxpaying working stiff purchases, at the advice of their PR, legal and accounting divisions, donates to New York City charities rather than offer a living wage with benefits to their employees?

Is it that money to which you are referring?

Vladtheimp

Oh, the evil Walmart, which is actually a piker compared to the number of employees nationwide hired part time, and those converted to less than 30 hours a week to comply with the requirements of Obamacare. And it now appears that the Individual Mandate is toast; and that hardly anyone will be fined for not purchasing insurance, and the taxpaying working stiff will be burdened with the huge wasteful costs of Obamacare.

Lanivan

It appears there is no evidence that suggests Obamacare is instigating a rush to part-time positions.

Since President Obama signed health reform into law in March 2010, civilian employment has grown by 5.4 million, and over 90 percent of the increase is among people who usually work full time.[3] Economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco have concluded that “part-time work is not unusually high compared to levels observed in the past, most notably in the aftermath of the early 1980s recession.”[ http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view...

Surely there will be some other avenue of ACA criticism which is ripe for the pickin'.

Hey Lani, thought you might be out in your kayak tonight. I was going to comment on the picture of the tennis player but that probably wouldn't end up well. I only watch tennis when Ms. Sharapova is on because I enjoy the sound effects she makes when hitting the ball.

Back on topic - speaking of Walmart, the last time I was in there I happened upon the only one check-out lane open deal. Of course I got directly behind a dude who was playing the price-match game like a fiddle from hell. He had a paper or online ad for every damn item in his overflowing cart. He also had a Raymond Babbit-like ability of memorizing their terms and conditions and reciting them back. It was only morbid curiosity to the manager's reaction that kept me from walking out or simply beating myself to death with a cold 20 ounce Diet Pepsi from the cooler so conveniently located next to the checkout.

I'm debating whether to investigate the report of Kona brew in Muskegon. Have a nice evening!

Lanivan

Hi Barry - Not tonight, although the weather was perfect. I'm still traumatized from the other night, when I went out slathered in Deep Woods Off as well as a clip-on, and yet by the time the little excursion was over, I looked like I had chicken pox.

Maybe you should tape Ms Sharapova and replay the sound effects at your leisure? What a Walmart experience = you deserve an ice cold Kona after that. Reminds me of my own Walmart nightmare - on my lunch break, had a cart full of stuff, standing at the end of a long line at the only open check-out, waiting patiently, gets to my turn, I've got the cart unloaded onto conveyor, check-out girl looks at me while she turns her light off and walks away.

Hope you won the debate and got a chance to scope out the Kona as well as the venue in terms of convenience for Beer Summit, for example, closest MATS drop-off, availability of rest rooms (clean), etc. I await your report.

Barry Soetoro

Party in the Park Trip Report: Ok so I ended up winning the debate and secured transportation. After parking and a short walk arrived at the venue around 7:30. The “band” consisted of a combined lead singer/lead guitar and a drummer playing some kind of new age stuff. Now Barry S. appreciates most varieties of music but this was pushing the limit. Of course one could always hope a surprise guest such as PussyRiot makes an appearance but it was not to be this evening. Drink tickets at the gate were a dollar apiece and it takes four to secure a “craft” brew. The crowd in attendance consisted of a pretty even mix of all ages it seemed – perhaps tilting slightly in favor of the “older” crowd. Arrived at the beer wagon and the anticipation was over as I spotted an empty box of both Kona Longboard and Big Wave under the table. Sweet! I promptly ordered a Big Wave and watched in horror and the server opened the bottle and proceeded to pour the precious contents into a PLASTIC CUP! Needless to say the joy of ordering a Kona brew so close to home could not outweigh the fact that it is required to be consumed from a plastic cup. I promptly consumed the contents of my plastic cup and departed the venue swearing to never again consume Kona brew outside the 808…and this time I mean it!

Disclosure: While I can report the availability of ample portable restrooms I am unable to report the interior condition of said restrooms due to a debilitating phobia that involves public restrooms. Enough said. More disclosure: After writing this I feel as though I am ready for my invitation to join the Dining Divas.

Lanivan

Seriously detailed debriefing, Barry! My newly cleaned garage or Vlad's newly constructed riverside pavilion/chamber are looking better by the day. I'm appalled at the thought of Kona in plastic....at this point, one must wonder - did these people watch The Graduate?

Band? Sounds lame. We could do better singing karaoke to "Brown Eyed Girl".

I'm right there with ya buddy on those portapotties. Under extreme duress, I've used them, but otherwise, they are not my first choice. (I'll pull a few strings - expect a DD invite momentarily)

Barry Soetoro

Karaoke? I perform a mighty fine Axl Rose impression when under the influence. Or so I'm told.

Lanivan

I would guess you could belt out a great Axl....Would you sing "Civil War" for me?.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Barry Soetoro

Yes, I do take requests if that's what your asking. BTW, I used up the last of my tapes on recording Giada making hand-formed meatballs.

"The $$ are so much cleaner if stolen from the taypaying working stiffs. . . "

Are you referring to the taxpaying working stiff money that is collected by the government employee unions that goes almost entirely to the democrats?

https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs...

Is it that money to which you are referring?

Lanivan

No - that is not the money to which I am referring.

Lanivan

I didn't know the Koch Bros were RACIST on top of everything else - tsk, tsk, it just keeps getting worse and worse with these guys. I commend the Koch Bros for heeding the advice of their PR, legal, and accounting divisions, and donating $25 million to the UNCF, as a way to redirect public scrutiny after funding $125 million for misleading and false advertising.

Of course, this might have something to do with it, as well:

"Koch Industries has a history of supporting UNCF dating to 2005, when it acquired the company Georgia-Pacific. Georgia-Pacific supported UNCF going back four decades. Since 1995, Georgia-Pacific and Koch have donated more than $1.5 million to UNCF, according to Koch."

And: "This is the fifth-largest gift UNCF said it has received. The largest, $1.6 billion, came from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation."
