Oops! EPA goes off topic, tweets about Kardashian

The Environmental Protection Agency's fight to clean up water pollution got a splash of pop culture Tuesday, thanks to an Internet flub involving reality TV star Kim Kardashian.

The verified Twitter account for the EPA's Office of Water mistakenly published a message Monday night about an online game, "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood," in which players walk red carpets, attend photo shoots and get dolled up like a Kardashian. An agency spokeswoman said the off-topic tweet was done by an intern.

The government's tweet was removed within hours from the @EPAwater account, but not before a tweet from the account of Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., the 88-year-old co-author of the Clean Water Act, poked fun by asking what a Kardashian is.

Dingell's account on Tuesday tweeted: "Staff has now informed me of what a Kardashian is. I'm only left with more questions."

The brief intersection between a celebrity and the federal agency in charge of tackling pollution gave an obscure EPA office a surge in popularity. Kardashian's lavish wedding to Kanye West made international headlines, and her show "Keeping up with the Kardashians" has been popular on the E! network for nine seasons.

The agency took the mistake in jest. On Tuesday, the EPA account thanked Kardashian for its 15 minutes of fame.

"Whoops . our bad. Sorry about tweet," the message read. "Upside - more attention for the Office of Water (water.epa.gov), thanks @KimKardashian."

Who cares?

Harry Kovaire

A government of idiots.

What would be really idiotic is if the EPA intern tweeted about
Sarah Palin, given that today Roger Ailes admitted Sarah's journalistic employment on Fox News is conditional strictly on her attractiveness and popularity, as he thinks she is an "idiot" and "stupid".

War on Women II - Ignoramus cites Roger Ailes as authority on anything - how droll!

Oh, how gauche of me! You mean he's wrong? She isn't attractive, popular, stupid and idiotic (apparently a shared trait between Sarah and you-know-who)?

Oh please... Excuse, deflect by pointing at someone else.
This current administration are nothing but an embarrassment to the nation. And their policies are a detriment to all citizens.

Would you kindly list the policies of the current administration that are a detriment to all citizens? And then would you kindly list the policies of Bush that were a benefit to all citizens?

I'll make it easy for you, and list of few of the benefits that come to mind - please feel free to add to the list:

Two unilateral, paid-for-on-the-US credit card wars totaling $6 trillion+ to the debt

Blew through a surplus budget and declining deficit and increased the federal debt by 101%

A recession that was the most severe in 80 years.

Signed the Patriot Act into law

Expanded the Reagan Free Phone program to include free cell phone usage

Ignored a major report that called for action to stem the problems in the VA

Thanks, Boater! I look forward to that list of embarrassments!
