4 Ottawa County businesses recognized for compliance

Four Ottawa County retailers were honored last month as a result of their efforts to keep alcohol and tobacco out of the hands of minors. The Ottawa Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, along with Communities Helping Ottawa Obtain a Safe Environment and Smoke Free Ottawa, presented the businesses with Exemplary Retailer awards. They are: - Boatwerks in Holland: 11 alcohol-sales compliance checks since 2008 with 100-percent compliance.

— Mancinos in Allendale: five alcohol-sales compliance checks since 2008 with one citation. Since that citation in 2008, they have had 100-percent compliance.

— Walmart in Holland: 16 tobacco-sales compliance checks since 2005 with 100-percent compliance. — BP in Holland: 14 tobacco-sales compliance checks since 2005 with 100-percent compliance.

Officials said the four businesses also actively provided compliance training to their employees and servers, attended the annual “Day with the Commissioner” sessions, and participating in the Ottawa Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition.
