Ottawa County jobless rate drops a half-point

Ottawa County's jobless rate fell a half-point from January to February. This follows the seasonally unadjusted unemployment report last month that had the county's jobless rate go up for the first time since last summer. The state's Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth said Thursday that the seasonally unadjusted jobless rate for the Holland-Grand Haven metropolitan statistical area, or Ottawa County, dipped from 9.8 percent in January to 9.3 percent in February.

A couple of weeks ago, the DELEG reported the county’s jobless rate rose six-tenths of a point in January from 9.2 percent in December 2010. That was the first time it increased since it went up to 12.6 percent in June 2010, before falling to 11.2 percent in July.
