Hope College Concert Band to perform Thursday

The Hope College Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in Dimnent Memorial Chapel. The public is invited and admission is free. The concert band consists of Hope students and community members from the Holland and Zeeland area. The group meets Thursday evenings.

The concert will feature a variety of band classics. Highlights will include the “Enigma Variations,” by Elgar; “Pageant,” by Persichetti; “Elegy for a Young American,” by Lo Presti; “Fortress,” by Ticheli; “Toccata,” by Frescobaldi; and a variety of national anthems narrated by one of the band’s community members, Lou Van Koevering of Zeeland, who plays trumpet in the ensemble.

The performance will showcase three student conductors: junior Michael Naughton of Prospect Heights, Ill.; junior Robin Pulsifer of Charlotte; and sophomore Jessica Wells of Indian Creek, Ill.

The band is directed by Gabe Southard of the Hope College music faculty.

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located at 277 College Ave.
