CG Auxiliary hosts regional training symposium

More than 500 Coast Guard auxiliarists from around the Great Lakes region, and as far away as Alaska and Hawaii - as well as active duty and civilian members of the U.S. Coast Guard - gathered in Michigan a week ago for a training symposium. The symposium was held March 27 to April 2 in Pontiac. It was intended to improve their boating skills and public water safety programs for safeguarding mariners.

Class topics ranged from how to teach boating and kayak safety to operations that directly support Coast Guard search-and-rescue missions. Attendees logged more than 6,000 hours of instruction during the symposium.
