Model shipbuilder’s grandson to speak at museum

Peter Manting of Spring Lake will speak about his memories of his grandfather and his ships at 7 p.m. Thursday. The program will be held at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum's Depot location, 1 N. Harbor Ave. in downtown Grand Haven. When Manting was growing up, he remembers his grandfather, Harold Schwartz, meticulously working on building ship models. These weren't just any ship models: His grandfather had obtained blueprints of ships that had come in and out of the Grand Haven channel and built the models by hand; no kit, no precut pieces.
