Lots of new activities at Tulip Time 2011

Thousands of blossoming tulips, parades and street washing continue to be the biggest attraction for tourists - but there's lots of things new at this year's festival, scheduled for May 7-14, according to Tulip Time Festival Marketing Manager Carla Flanders. There's Battle of the Bands and Rock Camp for the younger crowds, street performers and an Art in Bloom competition for all ages; as well as a vintage baseball game, a Barbershop Parade of Quartets and Taste of Holland luncheon.

Flanders said also new this year will be a free shuttle service, which will circle downtown Holland and stop at key points every half-hour. Flanders said this is the first time for the service in the seven years she’s been involved with the festival.

The shuttle’s first stop will be the Windmill Island parking lot. On parade days, it will not run between noon and 4 p.m.
