“‘Rocket Fish’ is a way to unite all areas of the city using art,” said Randy Smith, owner of Michigan Rag Co. and co-chairman of the MSDDA committee that developed the project. “We already have 40 commitments for ‘Big Fish’ — and those, plus any others purchased, will be scattered all over Grand Haven from Memorial Day weekend through the end of ArtWalk 2011 (in September). Some of the ‘Big Fish’ will then be auctioned off during ArtWalk to raise funds for MSDDA.”
The “Rocket Fish” involves two sizes of 3-D fish sculptures. “Big Fish” are 6.5 feet by 4 feet, and must be pre-ordered through the MSDDA for $250 each.
There will also be “Minnows” that stand 2 feet tall and are priced at $35 each. They will be available for purchase at the MSDDA, Michigan Rag Co., Fat Chix, Grand Haven Garden House, The Paper Place and Borr’s Shoes & Accessories beginning May 1.
