Grand River GreenUp planned for Saturday, rain or shine

Organizers are hoping for better weather than what's in the forecast - but said the Grand River GreenUp will be held Saturday at Riverside Park, rain or shine. "If there's some lightning, we may have to push it off until later in the day,' said Kristi Klomp, the water programs manager for the West Michigan Environmental Action Council. WMEAC is coordinating the event with the Grand Haven Area Jaycees. More than 240 people have pre-registered to help with the first organized river cleanup in the area in 11 years, Klomp said.

The groups of garbage hunters will meet at 9 a.m. at the park, located near the end of North Cedar Drive.

Klomp said the cleanup will cover 3-7 miles along the Grand River from Riverside Park into the Bass River Recreation Area.

Registration will be open from 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday and the groups will head out on the garbage hunt at 9:30.
