Stalled Spring Lake Village housing development gets new life

A stalled housing development received new life after the Village Council unanimously approved the Alden Place site plan earlier this week. Grand Rapids developer Chris Vander Hoff of Bosco Construction is picking up the reins of Alden Place at the northwest corner of Alden and Savidge streets.

Vander Hoff plans to build 23 craftsman style single-family ranch homes on the site, down from the 29 units that local developer Norm Beebe planned to construct there several years ago. Beebe refurbished one of three Victorian homes and put roads and a foundation on the property before the economy and eventually foreclosure torpedoed his plans.

VanderHoff said he would begin construction on the north side of the property next to the Lakeside Trail bike path.

Prices will range from $140,000 to $170,000, according to the developer.
