Ottawa County’s Youth Education Program begins May 16

The Ottawa County Michigan State University Extension Office Master Gardener Volunteer Program is offering the Youth Education Program, beginning May 16. Children in grades 2-5 will meet for 16 sessions through Sept. 16. They will be guided by adult Ottawa County MSUE master gardener volunteers in the process of learning basic plant science, healthy gardening practices and ecology.

Class sessions will include indoor and outdoor lessons. All outdoor sessions will be held at the Ottawa County MSUE Master Gardener Volunteer Education Garden, 16446 Comstock St., near the Grand Haven Municipal Airport. Indoor session will be held at the Ottawa County Fillmore Administration Building in West Olive. Most sessions will be held during the daytime. A few evenings will be scheduled. 

Students who participate must meet 80-percent overall attendance, or 13 sessions, to obtain their YEP! Certificate.

The cost of the program is $30 per student, and includes all materials and refreshments. Registration is limited.
